My Story
It was a beautiful October day in upstate NY where my husband and I live with our three Pomeranians.  We haven't been married very long and I moved to NY from the deep south.  Being rather depressed and lonely from missing my home and family, my husband suggested we take our Poms out for a walk in a local garden.  My Poms are, of course, my babies.  Their a family in themselves.  There's Rocky the oldest, Prissy (Rock's wife) and their son lil Mister.  There's nothing they like to do more than go for a walk on their leashes.  They get so excited, you can actually see a smile on their faces.  Well, that is, until that day..........

We arrived at the gardens at approximately 1:00pm.  We gathered  the pups, put on their leashes and off we went.  After walking a few minutes my husband suggested we walk to a beautiful water garden that he knew I'd love.  We had just made it to the water garden when I noticed a couple walking toward us.  Along side them was a pit bull.  I noticed the dog wasn't leashed and instinct kicked in.  I asked the couple to "please leash the dog" .  They replied "it isn't our dog", and at that very moment, as if the animal knew what I was saying, the dog charged.  My husband was standing in front of me with two of our Poms on one leash.  The pit bull lunged at  my husband while he was picking the dogs up.  The pit tore into our little Mister first as Rocky ran away.  My husband was able to tear Mister from the pit bull's massive mouth as I was picking up  Prissy.  At that moment the pit lunged at me.  He tore into my arm with full force and would not let go.  The pain was intense.   I screamed, hollered, kicked with all my might but the beast continued to be relentless.  My husband was fighting this dog as if he were fighting another man but it never phased this animal.  My husband would pull the dog off me, stand in front of him to block the animal from me but the dog would charge again.  I was still holding Prissy in my arms as the animal charged once more, knocking me to the ground as my left leg twisted under my body.  The pit grabbed Prissy attempting to pull her from my grip.  Biting her on her back end, her screams were deafening.  The pit would let go of her then turn his attention to me.  There was nothing I could do as he ripped my shirt off as if it were a piece of paper.  I remember thinking "this is never going to end".    As he continued his attack, biting me, biting Prissy, I screamed and screamed.  As I was lying on the ground I looked up once and noticed several people standing around watching as we fought this dog.  I remember one man actually standing there no more than 10 feet away with his hands in his pockets.  Our eyes met and I begged him to help me.  He stood motionless.  As the attack continued, my husband would pick this large animal up and throw him as far away from me as he could.  No sooner had he got the dog off of me and reached down to pick me up, the dog would be right back on top of me.  This happened over and over and no one would help.  At one point, as I heard myself and Prissy screaming in agony and terror, I remember thinking to myself, "I'm about to die; I'm going to die right here, right now and I'm so tired from fighting this monster, I'm ready to die."

And then I prayed.......
